Volunteer opportunity – communications support

The Wild Animal Welfare Committee (WAWC) is looking for a communications volunteer with a keen interest in wild animal welfare across the UK.

The WAWC is a small expert committee founded in 2014 to offer advice on wild animal welfare to legislators and policy makers in all UK administrations.

What do we do?

We produce policy documents, position statements and consultation responses on issues affecting the welfare of free-living wildlife in the UK.

We also run conferences and seminars aimed at policymakers, academics and the public.

We are registered as a Scottish charity but we work on UK-wide and sometimes international issues.

What do we need?

 ·      We need to communicate the Committee’s work to a wider audience and to improve our reach in government, academic and public arenas.

 ·      We need to build up media and social media contacts as well as a network of organisations with shared interests.

·       We need to use social media more effectively and keep like-minded people aware of our activities.

This role would appeal to a communications student or graduate with an interest in wildlife welfare
OR someone with experience of wildlife study and advocacy who is familiar with wildlife networks and modern communications channels including social media.  Excellent written and presentation skills, in a variety of media, are essential.

This opportunity is particularly suitable for applicants from Scotland, but we will also consider applications from other parts of the UK.

The successful applicant will receive induction and familiarisation from the Secretary and Chair of the Committee and will be invited to attend WAWC meetings as an observer.  Meetings take place around four times a year, usually online but we aim to meet at least once a year in person.  Expenses are paid for attendance at in-person meetings.

The initial appointment is for one year.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please email the Secretary, Libby Anderson, on wildanimalwelfarecommittee@gmail.com to tell us a bit about yourself and how you think you can support the work of the WAWC by getting our message out to a wider audience.
